Serving The Storage Shed And Backyard Needs In The Shenandoah Valley And Beyond Since 1972.
In 1972 Bennie Byler began selling sheds as Byler’s Storage Buildings in Stuarts Draft, Virginia. At that time, there were no other shed manufacturers in the state of Virginia, and the only backyard storage alternative were little tin sheds available from Sears and Montgomery Ward. As a home builder, Bennie Byler realized the need for quality storage alternatives, and began testing the market with some sheds that he bought from a manufacturer in Indiana. He set a few sheds beside the road in front of his house, and when it became apparent that there was a good market for these sturdy little buildings, began building them himself in a friend’s chicken house. The staple product was the “little red barn” storage shed, which is so much a part of our company history that we have incorporated this icon into our logo.
To Meet Local Demand, Byler Expanded To A Full-Time Shop To Serve The Valley From 1973 To The Late 1990s.
In 1973 Mr. Byler built a shop next to his home on Cold Springs Road in Stuarts Draft. This shop manufactured and retailed nearly all of Byler’s storage shed products until the late 1990’s. Growing demand for more available styles and options, as well as a growing market, led Bennie to open their first retail location on Rt. 340 between Waynesboro and Stuarts Draft. Bennie worked with local craftsmen to construct the storage sheds as he focused on attending to the client experience. He was able to offer more product options with shorter lead times, and keep a firm hand on product quality. In 1996, Bennie took his son Steve into the business as a partner, and the company became Byler’s Storage Buildings, Inc.
In the 2000s, Byler Expands To Offer Storage, Playgrounds, and Gazebos In New Retail Locations.
In 2004, the retail location moved about a mile north on Rt. 340 to its current location. In 2007, a new retail location was opened just north of the city limits in Harrisonburg. In the fall of 2009, company founder Bennie Byler retired from his position as President of the company, but still serves as a design consultant in the Waynesboro office. His son Steve is now CEO of the company.
