Tamra and Ron Gaines live in McKinney, Texas. Ron needed a place to keep tools. Tamra needed space for the chickens’ supplies. Their garage was not big enough, so a separate tool shed made good sense.
Researching local shed manufacturers, the Gaines wanted to see actual buildings before they purchased a he shed/she shed. A visit to Ulrich Barns was helpful, because “going out and seeing the quality of the product was really important,” Tamra said.
Tamra wanted a shed that didn’t just meet their utilitarian needs, but that fit the look and feel of their backyard living space. The Gaines chose an 8×16 Retreat, adding small windows above the double barn doors and trim around windows facing their pool. The siding and color matches their house. Ulrich Barns was “able to create exactly what we were looking for,” Tamra says.
With a wall in the middle, “we split the space and created two functional spaces.” Tamra says. On the rustic side Ron organizes his tools. On the pretty side, Tamra keeps gardening and pool supplies.
The Gaines call their pool shed the Gypsy Shed because it’s been in four locations in their backyard and taken on many functions from chicken shed to garden shed to pool shed. “Every time we had an idea, the shed was just part of it,” Ron says.
Ron feels their he shed/she shed from Ulrich Barns is an extension of their house. “It’s a beautiful structure, and it blends with the backyard and pool,” Ron says. “I think we kind of lucked out.”
