Custom Garage for 800 hp Muscle Cars

Updated: Mar 18

When Robert Hames converted his two-car garage into a one-car garage, he needed extra living space and room for their cars. He wanted to build a detached garage.

Quotes from several contractors weren’t economical. But on a work trip, he drove past the Ulrich Lifestyle facility and talked with a garage designer about a custom garage. Robert wanted it as wide as possible, with the length to fit into the space on his property.

He liked that the Ulrich garage was unfinished so he could finish it out himself and that it was an economical choice. His 26×38 Carriage House garage is the largest size of Ulrich garage without interior poles. Because he works on cars, he didn’t want poles inside. The upstairs area was a bonus, allowing for almost 1,000 more square feet of storage.

The Ulrich team built Robert’s custom garage, from the foundation up, in less than 30 days. He was impressed with the smooth process of building.

Robert then finished out the garage with room for three cars, with work benches and cabinets along the walls. He added recessed lighting, bamboo siding on the walls, and peg boards where his tools are beautifully organized. The AC unit upstairs was meant to control the second story climate, but it keeps the downstairs cool too.

Robert loves the space to tear his hot rods apart, leave the mess out, and come back to it later. He enjoys having a place to organize all his tools. His Ulrich custom garage is a roaring success.
